Santa Barbara City College Chooses Anthony Beebe

Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Trustees are offering Anthony Beebe the job as president and Superintendent.

Beebe will be on campus to meet the staff and public next Thursday when a formal vote will approve his hiring.

Beebe was one of 42 candidates in a nationwide search. He is currently the president of San Diego City College.

SBCC Board of Trustees President, Marsha S. Croninger, said “Dr. Beebe is fully committed to the success of each student at the college. He also understands that SBCC is the community’s college. He has a clear focus and demonstrated success reaching out to meet the needs of local communities – the “community” part of community college. I am confident that under his leadership SBCC will further enhance its tradition of academic excellence while building upon its outreach to the community for the collective benefit of all. “

After finding out he was the top finalist Beebe said “I am honored and humbled to be selected as Santa Barbara City College’s next Superintendent/President. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already established by the leaders that preceded me, including Dr. Lori Gaskin. I understand what a special place this college is and its importance to the community. We will work together to build on the college’s strong traditions of excellence and its commitment to the community. I am eager to listen and engage with the campus, the SBCC Foundation and with the local community to foster strong relationships.”

Beebe’s teaching experience includes jobs at Southern Oregon State College (Ashland, OR), Portland Community College, and Marylhurst University.

Prior to teaching he was a fire fighter, and training officer on an Army base in Saudi Arabia.

Beebe earned his Doctor of Education degree from Oregon State University and an MBA from California State University, Sacramento.

He is currently finishing a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara.

Dr. Lori Gaskin is retiring this summer. Beebe will begin his job July 1.
