LATEST UPDATE

ORCUTT, Calif. – As of 5 p.m., Santa Barbara County Sheriff deputies say one Righetti High School student has been arrested for making a false call to police today.

Earlier today the school was placed on lockdown just before students were going to be dismissed for lunch. Deputies say they received a false call that someone had been stabbed in one of the school’s bathrooms. Moments after the lockdown parents quickly rushed to the school to find out what was going on.

“My heart is beating very fast, I don’t know if my son is involved or not you know you never know I call and no body answered,” says Johavany Kurokawa. She says she had come to the school to pick up her son.

After a search of the school, deputies say they found that no one had been hurt, and classes resumed as normal.

“It’s very disheartening and it puts you in a very nervous situation that you can’t send your child to school and know that she is safe and that she is going to make it home by the end of the day,” says Selina Austin.

The student arrested has been booked into juvenile hall.

The school was placed on a precautionary lockdown while Sheriff’s deputies investigated. It was determined the call was unfounded and false. Two male students were detained and are under investigation for possibly making a false report of an emergency. The lockdown lasted approximately 30 minutes.
