Mahle’s Big League Career is off to a Solid Start for the Angels

He just turned 23 but Greg Mahle is turning heads after just a few weeks in Major League Baseball.

The Los Angeles Angels called up the former UCSB star on April 11 and the lefty reliever is 1-0 with a solid 2.16 ERA in 11 appearances. Mahle got his first big league victory on May 1 at Texas.

Mahle spent three years at UCSB and was a 2012 Freshman All-American for the Gauchos. In 2013 he helped the Gauchos end a twelve year NCAA Regional drought. He was an All Big West selection in 2014 before the Angels drafted him in the 15th round with the 449th overall pick.

Mahle was the eighth player in the 2014 draft class to reach the majors but the previous seven were all picked among the first 55 selections.
