Pedestrian in Hit-and-Run Near Popular Santa Barbara Bar Dies

UPDATE

The pedestrian involved in a hit-and-run Friday night in the 4400 block of Hollister Avenue has died, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.

67-year-old Victoria Harris of Cambria was pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering major injuries during the collision near Arboleda Road and Hollister.

According to a CHP report released Saturday morning, the deadly crashed occurred when Eileen Fox, 50, of Santa Barbara struck Harris after she exited her parked vehicle. Harris was thrown westward and landed on the roadway.

Fox fled the scene in her Nissan Murano westbound on Hollister Avenue. CHP followed up on leads and were able to locate Fox and arrested her.

Fox faces felony hit-and-run and involuntary manslaughter charges. She was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail. Her bail is set at $100,000.

It is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision.

A pedestrian is fighting for her life after being hit by a vehicle near a popular Santa Barbara bar in the 4400 block of Hollister Avenue Friday night.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 9:42 p.m. Witnesses say that the woman was walking across the street towards the Creekside Bar.

Authorities confirmed that this was a hit-and-run.

According to the California Highway Patrol website, the suspect car is described as possible a dark 4-door sedan.

Capt. Dave Zaniboni with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department described the victim as being in her mid-60’s. He added that CPR was performed on the victim at the scene, and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries.

The victim’s condition remains unknown at this time.

Hollister westbound lanes are closed to traffic. Motorists passing through the area are urged to drive with caution as law enforcement conducts their investigation.
