Man Falls Off Cliff in Isla Vista, Suffers Major Injuries

A man who reportedly fell 30 to 40 feet from a cliff on the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista, is recovering at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital after suffering major injuries.

Multiple witnesses reported the incident at about 3:57 p.m. Friday. The area experienced high surf at the time, but emergency personnel were able to reach the victim who is described as being 19 to 20 years old.

Capt. Dave Zaniboni with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said that the victim was conscious when emergency responders arrived on scene. Zaniboni added that the male victim fell through a fence as he was moving from one property to another.

It’s unknown whether alcohol played a factor in this cliff fall. The incident is under investigation.
