Isla Vista Halloween Safety Tips

Despite a concert featuring Snoop Dogg at UC Santa Barbara this weekend, thousands of people are expected to attend the Halloween festivities in Isla Vista.

The UCSB Major Events Committee and the Division of Student Affairs wants to keep Isla Vista safe during this Halloween and have released the following safety tips and information:

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

If you have a party, know who your guests are. Check your lease because some leases have restrictions during Halloween weekend. No overnight guests are allowed in any of the UCSB residence halls and university owned apartments beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, October 29 through Monday, November 2. Students are encouraged to discourage out-of-town visitors for Halloween weekend. And if your friends have been drinking, check on them. You may call a CSO evening escort at 805-893-2000.

WHAT IS LEGAL? WHAT ISN’T

Furnishing alcohol to minors carries a $4,070 fine. Possession of an open container is a $235 to $500 fine. Public intoxication has a $375 to $1,000 fine attached to it. Public urination will cost you about $235 for the first conviction. Getting caught under the influence of a controlled substance carries a mandatory 90-day jail sentence.

If law enforcement determined that Isla Vista has become unsafe for the public, roads will be closed by the County and proof of residency such as a lease agreement, utility bill, with your name and address, will be required for vehicle entry.

Per Ordinance 28A-1, if you’re participating in an unpermitted event, or are part of a crowd blocking a street, keep moving or you may be cited up to $500.

PARKING INFORMATION

All cars between the 6500 to 6700 blocks of Del Playa, 6500 block of Trigo, Camino Del Sur between Del Playa and Trigo, Camino Pescadero between Del Playa and Trigo and El Embarcadero between Del Playa and the top of the loop, will be towed if not moved by 3 p.m. October 30. This parking enforcement remains in effect until 6 a.m. on Sunday, November 1st.

Registered UCSB undergraduates with the Annual Night & Weekend parking permit are eligible to park in designed campus lots or structures from 11 a.m. October 30 to 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 2.

No out-of-town visitors will be allowed to park on campus, in local parking lots around the Goleta area, and Goleta neighborhoods. No taxis will be allowed to pick up or drop off on campus.

POLICE ROADBLOCKS

Police roadblocks are placed at six intersections from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night on Friday, October 30th to Sunday, November 1st. The roadblocks aim at preventing vehicle access to Del Playa, Sabado Tarde, and Trigo roads from the 6500 through 6800 blocks.
