Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team Helps Injured Hiker

A local hiker is recovering from injuries sustained during a hike in the Hot Springs Canyon area in Montecito Thursday afternoon.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team located the woman, in her 20’s, using GPS mapping and a direct cell phone call with the victim who had slipped and fallen while hiking with a friend. The victim complained of severe leg pain.

A medic with the Montecito Fire Protection District stabilized the victim who had injured her ankle.

Search and Rescue off-road vehicles were brought in to transport the hiker down the trailhead. She was transported to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said that the summer is one of the busiest times of the year for the Search and Rescue Team because they respond to a large volume of calls related to injured or lost hikers.
