Soggy Underpass Gets More CalTrans Work to Help Commuters

A soggy street in Santa Barbara is getting another repair job. CalTrans is hoping to make the drive easier for commuters with the current work on Castillo St. where it goes under Highway 101.

For years, the area has been challenging for cars and bicycles. Water comes to the surface and the asphalt comes apart. The latest impacts have left behind giant potholes, and big pools of water.

CalTrans is using special machinery to smooth over the site and make the surface safer. At times one lane has been closed for the work in a very busy area between downtown and the beach.

This summer a larger repair project is planned.
