Salvation Army in Arroyo Grande Receives Generous Donation
The Salvation Army South County Chapter received a donation check for $63,809.18 Friday morning to make-up for the holiday shortfall. The check was presented by New Life Church.
“I simply cannot believe the members of New Life were able to raise that amount of money in one day on our behalf,” said Beth Quaintance, Service Extension Representative for San Luis Obispo County.
A campaign to raise the funds came from Pastor Ron Salsbury of New Life Church on Christmas Eve. He said, “We normally do not take an offering on Christmas Eve, but when I heard the Salvation Army’s dilemma I knew we needed to respond.”
The Salvation Army said a 2013 decision by Investec, which did not allow “bell-ringers” on the premises of the Wal-Mart in Arroyo Grande, led to a $30,000 shortfall in holiday donations.
