Lynn Compton Wins SLO County Supervisors Race

More than a year after announcing her candidacy for the 4th District seat on the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, Lynn Compton has claimed victory. The businesswoman from Nipomo unseated incumbent Caren Ray by more than 7 percent of the votes.

With all 37 precincts reporting, Compton tallied 6943 votes (53.46%) to Ray, who collected 6016 votes (46.32%). The win ends a campaign that not only drew wide attention throughout the county, but also national attention as well. Also, with both candidates raising more than half a million dollars combined, it will likely end as the costliest supervisors race in San Luis Obispo County.

“I feel good and I feel like a lot of people really worked hard to get us here,” said Compton just moments after the final results were announced. “I feel like this wasn’t a single person event and I had a lot of people like I said that dedicated hours and hours walking precincts and you just never know until its over, so I feel blessed that they’re rewarded too tonight.”

“We’ve run the campaign we’ve wanted to run,” said Ray. “We’ve kept things in the right vein and that we’re positive and letting voters know what we’re are and what we stand for and doing that while you’re doing the job full-time in a big, big job.”

Ray has held the seat since last October when she was appointed to the position following the sudden death of Paul Teixeira. She will now serve out the remainder of the term for two months. Compton will take over the seat when she’s sworn into office on Monday, January 5, 2015.
