Miramar Hotel Project on the Comeback with Proposed Opening in 2017

Caruso Affiliated is planning a new concept for The Miramar Beach Resort & Bungalows in Montecito.

The opening date is estimated to be the summer of 2017.

A new look will feature 170 rooms, down from previo us design of 186.

27 will be oceanfront rooms and suits. There will also be a restaurant facing the water, a beach snack bar, pools and event space for 400.

The Miramar dates back to the late 1880’s and was one of the first beach side hotels in California. In 2000 it closed and ownership along with design plans have not been successful since then. Current land owner Rick Caruso has assured the local residents he will build the Miramar. For years he has tried to work out the financial plan and designs that fit his needs and those of the area.

CARUSO AFFILIATED UNVEILS NEW PLAN FOR
THE MIRAMAR BEACH RESORT & BUNGALOWS

Premier Architect and Montecito Resident, Marc Appleton, Retained for Design

MONTECITO, CALIF. – Caruso Affiliated announced today its plans to move forward with a new concept for The Miramar Beach Resort & Bungalows. Set on 15.7 pristine oceanfront acres, Caruso unveils an intimate, smaller design under the direction of Caruso Affiliated and Santa Barbara-based architect Marc Appleton. Locals and guests can anticipate a summer 2017 opening date.

“The real estate and financial markets have steadily improved, and we have remained committed to this project throughout one of the most challenging economic times imagined,” said Rick J. Caruso, founder and chief executive officer of Caruso Affiliated. “We are thrilled to be working with renowned Santa Barbara architect Marc Appleton and his more intimate design will tie characteristics of the old Miramar with a new paradigm for hospitality.” Caruso continued, “As we embark on the next phase of this project, we are confident that we will be able to build a resort that will not only echo the great heritage of The Miramar, but also one that Montecitans will be proud to call their own.”

Inspired by its rich history, the destination resort will take shape on Santa Barbara’s coast and will set a new international precedent in resort, design and guest experience, while offering a harmonious escape for Montecito community residents. Established in the late 1880s, the original Miramar Beach Hotel was the first resort hotel in Montecito and was one of the first beachside hotels in Calif., but has been vacant since 2000. Caruso Affiliated purchased the property in 2007.

“The original Miramar Beach Hotel stood out as a jewel in the community, dating back nearly to the birth of California as a state,” said Appleton & Associates Founder Marc Appleton. “It is a great honor to help bring this cherished property, missing for the last 15 years, back to life again for our community.”

The Miramar Beach Resort & Bungalows is a one-of-a-kind project that will be built entirely from the ground up:

Guestrooms and Suites: Previously planned for 186 keys, the new design will accommodate 170 guestrooms, including 27 stunning oceanfront rooms and suites, including a freestanding 3,800-sq.-ft. presidential suite.

Miramar Club: The reimagined private-member Miramar Club for the community will be located on the property grounds, offering locals and guests an ideal setting and beach access.

Oceanfront Restaurant: An oceanfront restaurant has been added to the new design, which will provide guests and the community sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean with public beach access. The restaurant will become a unique amenity to the Montecito community, making for an unforgettable guest experience.

Main Building: Modeled after a great historic estate, the main building will incorporate a lobby, bar/lounge, ballroom/meeting rooms, and premier ocean- and mountain-view suites on the second level. Under the new plan, a casual all-day-dining poolside restaurant, as well as a destination spa and fitness center, will be in the main building, making them more accessible to guests, while maximizing the open space on the property.

Amid its landscaped grounds, guests can enjoy meandering walkways and intimate gardens. An expansive great lawn leads from the main building to the ocean, creating the ideal opportunity for weddings and other events held directly on the beach. Tracing through the new Miramar property, there will be both pedestrian walkways and 68 new public parking stalls along Jameson and Eucalyptus to enhance public beach access.
