Ventura Police Make Arrest In Cold Case

Ventura police detectives cracked a murder case dating back to June 1997.

That’s when James Bush, 16 was fatally stabbed by a burglar who got away after returning home with his mother.

A few months later Marco Antonio Casillas of Oxnard was arrested for burglary and sent to prison, but police did not connect the dots.

This summer the Ventura County crime lab found DNA evidence that police said linked him to the cold case.

On Monday morning, officers had no trouble arresting Casillas, police said they found him in county jail serving time for an unrelated crime.

The Bush family told police they were relieved and grateful that their son’s killer had been apprehended.
