Injured Hiker Rescued With Help Of Technology

An injured hiker was rescued thanks to a smartphone’s Geographic Information System. Members of the Montecito Fire Protection District said the GIS enabled them to pinpoint the location of the hiker through the 911 emergency system. The hiker was found about a mile from the main San Ysidro Trail.

Staff from the Los Padres Forest, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Search and Rescue, and a Santa Barbara County Helicopter helped. Rescuers carried the hiker down the trail where an ambulance was waiting to take the hiker to the hospital. The hiker’s injuries were not released.
