Survivor of 1960 Cal Poly Football Team Plane Crash Dies

A survivor of the deadly 1960 Cal Poly football team plane crash has passed away.

Billy Ross died on Monday in Bakersfield, according to Cal Poly officials. Ross suffered severe burns in the 1960 crash that happened during take off outside the airport in Toledo, Ohio. He was 25 at the time of the crash.

Of the 48 on board, 22 were killed, 16 were Cal Poly football players.

In 2010, the Cal Poly survivors had their 50th reunion at the university.

A moment of silence in memory of Ross will be on January 30 at the Cal Poly men’s basketball game.

Ross was 78.
