Woman flips car with children inside

A mother was arrested after flipping her car with two children inside on Sunday afternoon.

Santa Barbara police officials said Heather Maassen, 30, of Santa Barbara, was driving under the influence. After her arrest Maassen acknowledged using methamphetamine earlier in the day.

Maassen’s 11-year-old son and his 9-year-old friend were passengers in the car. The younger boy was transported to Cottage Hospital for medical evaluation.

The accident happened on Gutierrez Street between State and Chapala Streets.

Maassen hit a parked car, which slammed into another parked car. The impact caused the Civic to flip over and land on its roof.

Maasseen was arrested for felony DUI and felony child endangerment. She was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail with a bail set at $100,000.
