CHP rolls out motorcycle safety enforcement

There have been several deadly motorcycle accidents in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties in April and May.

The most dangerous roads include State Route 33, State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) and State Route 150.

Between 2007 and 2012 the CHP responded to 15 fatal motorcycle accidents and, 187 injury accidents in Ventura County.

Memorial flowers mark some of the spots where those fatal accidents occurred.

The California Highway Patrol will have extra officers patrolling Memorial Day weekend to prevent more motorcycle deaths.

Officer Steve Reid said 70 percent of all motorcycle accidents happen on weekends and about 90 percent involve excessive speeding.

The department received a California Traffic Safety Grant to pay for increased enforcement.

Reid said the CHP office in Ventura is also offering safety courses.
