Ventura amends massage regulations
The city of Ventura amended its massage regulations this month.
The updated ordinance is 2pages and includes requirements intended to put illegal sex workers out of business.
Legitimate massage therapists filled the Ventura City Council chambers Tuesday morning to learn about changes that may affect them.
Some said it makes them feel like they are guilty until proven innocent.
One section of the ordinance now bans curtains, blinds, and shutters from obstructing the view through front windows. The requirement does not mention any exceptions after hours.
California Massage Therapy Council CEO Ahmos Netanel said if that does not apply to other professionals it should not be required for the ones he represents.
Netanel said his council needs time to go over the ordinance to make sure the public and the professionals he represents are treated with respect.
But he said he understand the city is trying to go after the “bad apples.”
