Police shooting leaves one man dead, two female officers injured
One man is dead and two female officers are injured following an incident at Motel 6 on Harbor Boulevard in Ventura Thursday night.
Ventura police say two investigations are underway: one to find out what led up to the shooting and the other to determine whether lethal force was justified.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office is taking part in the probe.
Assistant Chief David Wilson said it all started when they got a call about a man causing a disturbance. The officers with 10 years of experience each were nearby.
When they tried to calm the man down, witnesses say he jumped in a pickup truck with Washington plates and tried to run them down. Wilson said one officer was run over, the other was struck.
Motel guests said he also crashed into other cars at the motel.
They saw him slumped over in the driver’s seat, where he was pronounced dead.
The officers were taken to the designated trauma center at the Ventura County Medical Center.
One of them was released, the other is being treated for more serious injuries.
The medical examiner won’t release the dead man’s name until an autopsy is completed on Saturday morning.
