Fewer teachers getting layoff notices
Fewer layoff notices are going out to California teachers this year compared to last year.
In the Santa Barbara School District, only eight pink slips have been issued. Last year, 70 notices went out.
Today is the day teachers need to be notified if they are going to be laid off at the end of the school year.
In some cases, the layoff notice is rescinded in the next few months when other teachers retire or funding is found during budget hearings.
We also called the Lucia Mar, Santa Maria and Oxnard school districts.
They have no layoffs.
Statewide 25,000 teachers received pink slips. That’s down from 20,000 from a year ago.
