Santa Barbara Woman Hit and Killed By Truck
Officials have identified a woman who was hit and killed by a car in Northern California over the weekend as 52-year-old Sherry Hicks from Santa Barbara. Her daughter-in-law was also hit and is in the hospital in critical condition. Hicks was apparently in Walnut Creek, visiting her son and his new wife. They were out walking when the truck jumped the curb.The driver of the truck is now facing charges for vehicular manslaughter.Witnesses say that at about 6:30 Saturday evening, a red Chevrolet pickup truck came speeding on north main street in Walnut Creek. A family of three was walking on the westbound side of the street. Irene Ward was walking in the area when she saw the tragic scene. “He just kind of ran into the people. They were pedestrians, and mom flew all the way from the corner here, and the girl flew all the way to the parking lot.”Walnut Creek police Lt. Bruce Hill says that the mother died apparently on impact. The injured woman was taken to a local hospital in what he and witnesses call grave condition. Police say they are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved in this fatal accident. Police have identified the driver as 53-year-old Hossein Tabrizi from Walnut Creek. He was arrested after he was released from the hospital.
