Cold Case Update

A cold case murder is red hot again.Last Thursday, Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Bakersfield man for a 1979 murder.John Clark Russell is being held in Ventura County Jail for the stabbing and shooting death of Alma Zuniga of Oxnard.The 23 year old was found in a shallow grave off North Rose Avenue in the unincorporated area of El Rio.Russell’s DNA from an unrelated prison term ended up in a National Data bank that linked him to the unsolved case.The 63 year old made his first court appearance today.Bail was set at almost 800 thousand dollars.But his arraignment was postponed until Monday morning, August 20th. Zuniga is survived by a son who lives in New Mexico.Jaime Zuniga told Key News by phone that he would travel to Ventura for the Trial.He says he was stunned and shocked by the arrest.
