Bus Fatal Folo

One of Ventura Unified School District’s small school buses struck and killed a Ventura woman Wednesday afternoon. Just before 3p.m. bus driver Joanne Madaule was driving 11 children home from school when she turned from Brookshire Avenue onto Woodland Street.Relatives of the 74 year victim, Marguerita McIntosh, say she was walking home from the Vons.McIntosh was struck in the crosswalk and died a few hours later at Ventura County Medical Center.CHP Officers say they determined that Madaule was under the influence of a controlled drug.They arrested the 54 year old on felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges. School officials were shocked.They say she is a veteran driver.The bus driver posted bail yesterday.She was placed on administrative leave and will make her first court appearance next Wednesday morning in Ventura County Court.The victim’s husband and her grown children say their hearts go out to the children and the driver.They described Marguerita McIntosh as a retired insurance broker, world traveler and avid walker.Share your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
