SBIFF rolls out the red carpet for opening night

Abigail Breslin, Luke Wilson, Ryan Phillippe, Andy Garcia and more walk red carpet on opening night

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-The 38th Santa Barbara International Film Festival opened with the sold out World Premier of "Miranda's Victim."

The film is based on the true story behind the 1963 kidnapping and rape of Patricia Weir and the Supreme Court case that led to Miranda Warnings and rights.

They include the right to remain silent, and the right to an attorney.

Weir had a small cameo in the film that tells the story of what happened during and after two trials that led to Ernesto Miranda's conviction.

Director and renowned acting studio owner Michelle Danner directed a stellar cast that includes Emily VanCamp, Josh Bowman, Sebastian Quinn, Abigail Breslin, Donald Sutherland, Ryan Phillippe and more.

Most of the cast, with the exception of Donald Sutherland, walked the red carpet.

Breslin is a newlywed who arrived with her husband.

She said this was the third time she attended the festival.

She attended at the age of 10, 17 and now she is 26.

SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling welcomed the stars and said he is looking forward the tributes and film panels during the festival's ten day run.

Rather than the opening night gala of years past, a smaller gathering took place in a tent by the Arlington Theatre entrance after the film.

The Arlington is just one of many local theaters that will be hosting film festival screenings.
