Ventura resident spreads joy across Santa Barbara County through singing telegrams
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Briana Gutter made people feel more connected during the pandemic— through singing.
“I do singing telegrams all over Santa Barbara County. I love it. It's so much fun. It's entertaining and I love to make people smile,” said founder of “Briana’s Singing Telegrams” Briana Gutter.
Briana has been showing up at people’s doorsteps, restaurants, and offices since 2013 with personalized telegrams she sings to them on special occasions.
She had to get creative during the pandemic, turning this in person surprise into a virtual singing delight.
Now that Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted, Briana is singing telegrams in person.
“I actually sing the personalized songs at the restaurant, and I'm full blown in costume. I got the sparkles and people are just so excited and my voice carries. So people turn around, they want to know what's going on. They want to see the cheer and the laughter,” said Briana.
Whether you’re 9 or 90, Briana will show up with balloons, candy, a personalized card, and a teddy bear.
“There was an elderly lady, I went to her birthday and like she had no idea I was coming. She was way like, you know, in her nineties and like when I showed up, it was just like, oh my gosh. And you see tears. And it was just super exciting for them because they didn't expect it. And when they got it, they were just like, Oh my gosh, what do I do? And like, tears flow and then everyone gets happy,” said Briana.
Briana has managed to turn what was once a childhood dream into a full fledged business, because of her love of performing and connecting with people.
“I love putting that smile on someone's face and transforming like a fun message into something exciting and cheerful and just making people laugh and making people smile,” said Briana.
