SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - This year’s annual Santa Barbara County Battle of the Books competition was held online. Over 140 students from grade levels 4th through 6th competed in the competition.

The team co-champions this year are the 'Master of the Books' and the 'Lightning Readers' who received Battle of the Books t-shirts and books that will be included in next year's competition. Coming in third place was 'The Dragon Readers.'

Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Salcido said, “We would like to commend our participants for their perseverance and preparation for this exciting competition. The students demonstrated exceptional teamwork and collaboration during this literary battle.”

All students that participated from different schools were assigned to groups where they were able to make new friends, practice teamwork and collaborate under pressure.

Many students received recognition for reading all 28 books on the competition list. Among them was Camila Munoz Cervantes, a student with visual impairment at Miller School in Santa Maria-Bonita School District who read all the books through an audiobook.
