California Avocado Festival crowns new guacamole champion

The 33rd annual California Avocado Festival held its annual guacamole contest in Carpinteria on the final afternoon of the 3-day event.

Judges including Arthur Von Wiesenberger, Rebecca Brand, Jessica Clark and Alan Parsons tasted 14 entries.

Judge and Chef Tony Arroyo said he looks for fresh, salty guacamole with a bit of a kick.

The winner got a kick out of being selected.

John Palminteri announced her name in dramatic fashion.

Guadalupe Santana, who came in second last year, won the top prize.

Santana thanked her son for being her inspiration and said she plans to take him to dinner to celebrate.

The audience had a chance to taste all the guacamole after the contest.
