Health experts excited about FDA approval of mixing COVID vaccines

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Doctors at Marian Regional Medical Center are pleased with what they're seeing as the country moves toward more COVID vaccine booster shots.

"… what we’re getting into now is the need for A booster or third doses of vaccine … or second doses of vaccine for those that received Johnson & Johnson vaccine ... your single fully vaccinated dose," said Dr. Scott Robertson at Marian Regional Medical Center.

Robertson explains, as we get further away from the time someone got their shots, the amount of antibodies wears off.

" ... we now know that mixing doses can be very safe ... there are no reports of significant adverse reactions … at what may be expected from mixing doses," said Robertson.

Clients at JDX Pharmacy say they would be thrilled about being able to mix the COVID vaccines for their booster shots.

" … yeah I’m pretty excited about that … that you can mix and match … but all depends on the person … what you think and what your values are on that … yeah we’re thinking about it right now … for the booster shot," said client Jose Barragan of JDX Pharmacy.

If mixing vaccines gets final approval from the CDC, some patients we spoke to believe that will make getting a booster shot easier for them.

“… well you know I mean it’s just more convenient for anybody that has either one of the vaccines … there about to … uh … pick and choose," said client Chuck Kirkland of JDX Pharmacy.

Pfizer boosters are already going in arms.

The latest efforts extends it to the other vaccines, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

The pharmacy sees more boosters as better for patients, giving people more choices in fighting the pandemic to keep the community safe.
