Renovated Cabrillo Pavilion ready for public
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — After a prolonged closure, the newly named and renovated Cabrillo Pavilion has partially opened for the public.
The East Beach Bathhouse building underwent an extensive $20 million renovation that includes a new beach boardwalk; stormwater improvements; restoration of the lobby; renovation of the men’s and women’s shower and locker facilities; along with adding multipurpose rooms for gym/fitness, recreation programs, meetings and special events.
“The building was constructed in 1926,” city parks and recreation director Jill Zachary said. “As you can only imagine, it was high time for a new everything.”
This renovation project wrapped up in April of 2020 but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city's Parks & Recreation Department was unable to open the facility for public use.
Nowadays, the shower, locker and gym facilities are back open for anyone.
Groups can also rent out the upstairs event room for private gatherings.
A new restaurant — Reunion Kitchen + Bar — is also anticipated to open in mid-September.
It’ll take over the spot formerly occupied by the East Beach Grill.
“Now that we’ve renovated it, we really can continue to have this facility serve the public for another 50 or so years,” Zachary concluded.
The Cabrillo Pavilion is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
People can pay per visit or purchase a monthly pass.
