Gilroy Garlic Festival returns for first time since mass shooting
GILROY, Calif. – The Gilroy Garlic Festival will return in 2021.
It's the first time the festival has been held since 2019 when a gunman opened fire at festivalgoers, killing three, including a 6-year-old. More than a dozen were injured and the gunman also took his own life.
The 2020 Garlic Festival was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association says there will be a variety of events showcasing distinctive food from Gourmet Alley at a series of drive-thru events.
The festival features a wide variety of garlic-inspired cuisine and merchandise and is a major economic boon for the town of about 56,000.
The festival dates are set for July 23 to July 25, and July 30 to August 1.
