SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The American Heart Association celebrates National Wear Red Day by taking part in The State Street Strut on Friday.

Participants will be wearing red while walking down State Street to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease in women.

The event will go from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Attendees will meet at Village Properties Realtors at 1436 State Street and walk to Paseo Nuevo at 651 Paseo Nuevo where a free health fair will take place at the shopping center.

The non-profit organization says cardiovascular disease kills one woman every 80 seconds and takes more lives than all forms of cancer combined.

They also say cardiac events are on the rise in young women in their 20s and it impacts the lives of one in three women.

The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement encourages people to show their support by wearing red and giving on Friday, Feb. 7 and through the month of February to help save lives of women around the world.
