Micro-homes coming soon to Atascadero to increase affordable housing
ATASCADERO, Calif. - New affordable housing is on its way to Atascadero after City Council members approved Grand Oaks Paseo on Tuesday.
Grand Oaks Paseo will consist of 30 "micro-homes" which are 500 to 900 square-foot homes that will have either one, two or three bedrooms.
The small houses are planned to be built on a 1.7 acre El Camino Real property near downtown.
The Grand Oaks plan will consist of 26 of the one to three bedroom homes and four live-work units which will have an office on the ground floor and a housing unit above.
The houses are estimated to cost between $250,000 and $350,000.
Grand Oaks Paseo will also have outdoor gathering areas, a community event center and 70 parking spaces for its residents.
Unlike tiny-houses and mobile-homes, Cal Coastal's affordable homes will include the land under the house.
Cal Coastal Properties said they hope the project will inspire others to build more affordable housing in our area.
