Family provides Guadalupe students with pumpkins to take home

A local Guadalupe family provided young students with pumpkins to bring home as part of a small-town community tradition on Monday.

The Almaguer family provided 572 students from Mary Buren Elementary School with free pumpkins to decorate and cook for the Fall season.

The children were able to select their favorite pumpkin on the front lawn of the school.

Some students plan to either decorate their pumpkin for Halloween or cook them into empanadas or pies.

Mary Buren Elementary School’s Principal Maria Gonzales said in a statement, “Thank you to the Almaguer family. It really created a wonderful memory for our students. Every contribution is hugely valued, but none that produce a strong sentimental emotion as the donation of hundreds of pumpkins.”

The pumpkins were grown locally.
