More electric charging stations could come to Santa Barbara

More electric vehicle charging stations are coming to Santa Barbara.

The city is expected to approve a plan on Tuesday for 15 electric vehicle charging stations on the top floor of the Granada parking garage on Anacapa Street.

The project is a collaboration that also uses grants and incentive funds from the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District and Southern California Edson.

The overall cost is $488,000 and a small portion of the funds come from the downtown parking reserves.

The city says transportation-related emissions comprise 57 percent of the overall Greenhouse Gas emissions in Santa Barbara. The report says building the infrastructure necessary to support zero emission vehicles will help reduce local emissions and directly support strategies outlined in the City’s Climate Action Plan.
