SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - College Works Painting is a residential painting company that is actively recruiting students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The company has branches across the country, including on the central coast. Its local branch draws students from Cal poly and UCSB, giving them skills to jumpstart their careers.

The company's internship position not only gives students a chance to earn an income while in school, but also teaches them how to run their own business.

“It’s definitely not a paper pushing internship,” said Bailey Uelen, General Manager at College Works Painting. "Essentially students are branch managers and they can run their own branches in their local neighborhoods."

Ryann Adrian is a student at Cal Poly, and works 20-30 hours a week as a branch manager. “This is one of the best internships you can have,” said Adrian.

Despite the unstable job market, College Works Painting is still recruiting. Uelen said the company has shifted to online marketing so the business can continue to operate. She added students are learning how to adapt, “giving them the opportunity to think for themselves and think creatively - and be a business leader during a pandemic.”
