Marian Regional Medical Center shares tips to stay safe as California fully reopens

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Roxanne Renteria is thrilled California is reopening.

"It’s awesome. I’m glad things are moving forward and it’s a blessing to see it’s actually getting better," said Renteria.

More than 15 months into the pandemic, doctors at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria are also excited.

"I think it’s very welcomed. We worked hard across the state of California getting people vaccinated," said Dr. Scott Robertson at Marian Regional Medical Center.

Robertson believes everyone doing their part to slow the spread was key to get to this point.

"They stayed socially distant for the most part t... they wore their masks when required ... and this is really the end result of all that hard work," said Robertson.

As part of the state’s reopening, there will be less restrictions. and businesses will be able to open at full capacity.

"It’s important to note that there are still some limitations with regards to the masking requirements ... like public transportation. So if you go to the airport to fly on an airplane or you're getting on a train or public buses ... you are still going to be required to wear a mask," said Robertson.

Mask wearing also applies to healthcare settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics and doctor's offices.

As people go about their day to day routine, Robertsons hopes everyone will continue to be aware of their own health condition.

"The other important issue is if you’re sick or having any symptoms, it’s important that you stay home, that you not go out into the public, and make sure you take care of yourself, and stop the spread of any sort of communicable disease," said Robertson.

Those fully vaccinated can finally get back to “normal” life.

Those who are unvaccinated will have to continue wearing masks in many circumstances.

Those who are still on the fence about the vaccine are urged to ask their own doctors for advice.
