SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Despite the extreme heat, many in Santa Maria spent Labor Day outdoors enjoying various activities at the parks.

Visitors say they came early in order to beat the heat.

Several families brought their kids to enjoy the newly built all-inclusive playground at Preisker Park.

Some came in from Fresno to catch the breeze while having lunch at the park's picnic tables.

Pete Palma met with his friends for a game of disk golf.

"I think we're handling it pretty good ... everyone's doing the cover up ... and I believe in distancing ... it's a great day and we're out here just throwing the disk around," said Palma.

Managers with the Recreation and Parks Department say they want everyone to enjoy the parks as long as visitors are wearing a mask and maintaining a physical distance.
