SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Two hikers were rescued by Santa Barbara County firefighters after suffering from excessive heat illness while out near Cold Spring Trail Saturday.

Firefighters received reports around 3:25 p.m. that a hiker had become sick in the area of East Camino Cielo and Cold Spring Trail.

Two engine companies and an SB County air support helicopter responded to the hiker's location.

Upon arriving, the helicopter hovered above the hiker and lowered an SB County Fire paramedic to the ground. The paramedic determined the patient had excessive heat illness and needed immediate medical attention.

The hiker was then hoisted into the copter and flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.

County Fire said, while they were still at the scene, a second hiker began to feel ill. That hiker was taken to a ground ambulance and transported to the hospital for treatment as well.

Two dogs were reportedly also at the scene, their conditions are unknown at this time.

County Fire would like to remind the public to limit their time outdoors and drink plenty of water during this heatwave.
