Why are you running for office? |
My wife and I love Santa Barbara! We raised our four children here and are the 3a of five Jordan generations to live in our Mesa home. This city needs good leaders to ensure our community's needs are met. For the past five years, it's been a privilege to represent and serve you as the Councilmember for District 2. My approach has been and will continue to be actively engaged with the community, listening to concerns and using common sense to navigate situations with competing interests and tensions. |
What makes you qualified for this position? |
I am an independent-minded local leader, accessible, engaged and solutions-driven. As a councilmember for the past five years, I've worked to improve lives and make local government work better for both the 2nd District and the broader City. |
What are the two hardest issues facing the candidate who wins the office you are running for? |
My focus remains on the issues that affect our community's quality of life and represent our shared values: positioning the City financially and environmentally for the future, maintaining and improving our parks and coastline, addressing long-term planning for drought and wildfire resiliency, bringing forward safety improvements for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists, reversing the erosion of our neighborhoods due to short-term vacation rentals, improving the look and feel of our downtown, supporting business and housing development in locations that clearly benefit the community without negatively impacting it, and continuing efforts to help vulnerable members of our community while reducing the impacts of homelessness. |
How do you plan to address the issue of inflation and its impacts on your constituents if elected? |
I'll continue to be committed to making local government a positive contributor to the community while improving the lives of every resident. I'll continue to support fair wages, improved city processes that support local businesses, developing affordable housing, and protecting local housing stock and tenants. |
What major crime issues do you plan to address if elected and how? |
I'll continue to hold public safety as a top priority, supporting effective staffing levels, offering fair pay and working conditions, and maintaining a police department that is engaged and responsive to community needs and concerns. |
How do you plan to address the issue of housing if elected? |
I'll continue to proactively seek out and support opportunities for housing that targets those most in need, in locations that clearly benefit the community without negatively impacting it, and collaboratively leverage city assets, grant funding, local employers, and non-profit housing developers. |
What do you hope to accomplish in your first year in office if elected? |
I'll continue to focus on all the above, and work with my colleagues toward effective improvements that benefit the community. |
What actions do you plan to take to reduce political divide? |
The voice of every member of our community is important. When we truly listen to each other, we often find deep and common values that lead us to powerful solutions. Our shared values, including where we live, community outreach and support, and the unique opportunities we have before us, unite our efforts. I'll continue to be committed to collaboratively building on these community assets. |
