National Farmer’s Market Week fosters connection in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— Fiesta may be over but the crowds are still here.
Santa Barbara was filled with people on State Street shopping at the weekly farmer’s market just in time for National Farmer’s Market Week.
The annual celebration, which is now in its 24th year, highlights the vital role farmer’s markets play in our nation’s food system.
Shoppers here say that they love to shop locally, not only to support the farmers and small businesses, but also to enjoy the in person sense of connection they feel when they see familiar faces.
“Whenever I work, I always see people that I know and it's great to give people deals and just connect,” said Leo Safir, who works at the Farmer’s Market.
“Farmers market is epic and you get to meet all the farmers and they're hanging out like I got my my buddy Mark behind me,” said local shopper Darren Iacono.
“It tastes better. And it's fun to be out in the sunshine and listening to music and having people out,” said local shopper Mark Greif.
“It's nice and important to know where your food's coming from and knowing your farmers and being able to put together wholesome food for your customers,” said Owner of Bossie’s Kitchen Lauren Herman.
You can catch these weekly afternoon farmers markets in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Montecito, and Solvang.
