Public invited to Sullivan Goss X Lotusland Art Reception in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The community will have a chance to meet local artists while also supporting Lotusland at the same time in Santa Barbara on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Sullivan Goss Art Gallery in Santa Barbara is excited to collaborate with Lotusland in Montecito.
Susan Bush, Contemporary Curator for Sullivan Goss Art Gallery, said "Artists were asked to specifically make a piece of artwork for this show, and they were all given access to Lotusland to go and spend the day and make something that spike to them."
The exhibition will showcase the work of some twenty five local artists inspired by Lotusland’s cultivated landscape.
"Our theme this year is where the wild things grow," explained Rebecca Anderson, Lotusland Executive Director. "So our partnership celebrates the plant life the biodiversity … and the beauty of the garden."
A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork will be donated to the Garden.
As a retail space we like to support our local organizations they are nonprofits … this was the perfect opportunity to do that," said Bush. "Lotusland is a place of much beauty so it’s sort of the perfect place for artists to go."
During the artists reception, organizers hope visitors will be inspired to learn more about organic gardening.
"Horticulture arts plant science if you want to learn about it, there’s no better outdoor classroom than Lotusland," said Anderson. "We have artists who have come to the garden inspired to paint or sculpt or make … to bring their own interpretation of Lotusland out … the reason for this is to allow the garden to emerge."
The artist’s reception is held in conjunction with the 1st Thursday Art Walk, hosted monthly by Downtown Santa Barbara.
"I hope everyone comes yes … e drying should come downtown there’s so much going on," said Bush.
The art reception is open to the public Thursday at the Sullivan Goss gallery in downtown Santa Barbara.
