Limn bill gives healthcare providers complete health history during mental health crisis

A bill authored by Assemblymember Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara) was signed by Governor Brown on Wednesday.

Assembly Bill 1119 ensures that emergency healthcare providers have access to a patient’s full medical records in case of a mental health crises or situation where a patient is unable to provide consent.

The new law aims to help emergency healthcare responders make “well-informed healthcare decisions” when treating patients.

The bill will become law on January 1, 2018.
