At around 11:30 p.m. police responded to Mitchell Park at 1400 Osos St. for a report of a stabbing.
Officers located a woman who had been stabbed in the arm. The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries and was later released.
The woman’s male companion gave a description of the suspect who had fled the scene on foot.
San Luis Obispo bicycle officers located the suspect nearby on the 800 block of Pacific Street.
Officers attempted to detain the man, but police say he resisted and ended up injuring one of the officers.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody and transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
He has been identified as Patrick Michael Egerton, 37, a transient from the San Luis Obispo area.
Police learned the Egerton had originally attempted to stab the victim’s male companion when the victim intervened and was stabbed in the arm.
