Titanic exhibit opens to public at Ronald Reagan Library

It’s been over 100 years since the Titanic sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean, but the story lives on.

“It was really important for us to tell the story of the Titanic in a very different way,” said Melissa Giller, spokeswoman at Ronald Reagan Library.

The Titanic exhibit at Ronald Reagan Library opened up on May 27th. The 10,000-square-foot exhibition has artifacts with real stories of the people onboard the unsinkable ship that went down back in 1912.

“We wanted to honor those who risked their lives and not take any of the artifacts that came from the ocean floor because we feel like that is a memorial site,” said Giller. “We want to salvage the wreck site.”

Everything you see in the exhibit is from survivors who carried it off the ship or recovered when it was floating on top of the ocean.

“Then we tell the story of the Titanic by using the props, sets, and costumes from the movie ‘Titanic’,” said Giller. Including Leonardo Dicaprio’s suit and Kate Winslet’s dress.

And at the end of the exhibit, a wall full of names is dedicated to over 1,500 lives that here lost.

The Titanic exhibit will remain open at the Reagan Library until January 7, 2018.
