City of Goleta offers public survey to determine Goleta Community Center services
GOLETA, Calif. - The city of Goleta wants community input on the future of the Goleta Community Center.
A new survey is asking the public what programming they would like to see at the center after seismic and accessibility work is completed.
Goleta City Councilman James Kyriaco says the community center is the beating heart of Old Town Goleta and the possibilities for its future are endless.
"It can become a lot of different things. We don't want to limit people in terms of what it can be, but it really needs to. It really needs to serve the whole community," said Kryiaco.
The City will take over management of the community center on Jan. 1, 2023. Seismic and accessibility work is set to begin in February. During construction, the main building will be closed for several months, but operations in the auxiliary buildings that house programs including CommUnify, Rainbow School, and the Boys and Girls Clubs will continue as normal.
The Center is currently under the management of the non-profit organization known as the Goleta Valley Community Center.
The public has until Jan. 13, 2023, to complete the survey. During construction, the city will take the community's input from the survey to create a strategic plan for the Community Center.
