Choppers getting involved on Highway 41 clean up
Helicopters were used to help with repairs high above Highway 41 Monday morning.
Up bright and early, local construction contractors and a helicopter crew were hard at work, delivering needed supplies to the cliffs above Highway 41. This is the first stage in a series of repairs that will keep the roadway closed until mid-February.
Amidst stops to re-fuel, a Huey helicopter uses a cable hundreds of feet long to haul rock netting to the unstable mountain face, where wire mesh will be laid down to stabilize the cliff side.
PG&E was also in the air Monday morning.
In order to keep crews safe, engineers were flown high atop the mountain to de-energize high voltage cables running from Diablo Canyon.
