Surfers enjoy latest swell along SouthCoast
A large swell on Friday on the Central Coast brought out many surfers to their favorite spots from the Rincon below Carpinteria to Hammonds in Montecito.
Surfer Davis Dolan said, “It’s the best day I have seen all year.” He remembers the bigger waves in Hawaii where he lived in the past but found the Montecito waves more appealing because they were less aggressive.
“A day like this is perfect. It’s big, not too big, it is gorgeous. How do you beat it,” said Dolan.
Great waves on a Friday create a work dilemma, for some.
Ian True said, “Just trying to get a couple of waves on my day off.”
When asked if he had the day off, True said, “No, I created a day off.”
Cameron Gniadek is a server at a nearby restaurant and got a workout in before clocking in. “Good to see friends and all have a good work out. Yeah, good stuff.”
William Ortiz was enjoying the water but also watching his kids very carefully with each wave hitting the coast.
“Making sure my kids weren’t getting caught in the under toe because the surf is so strong. My (other) son is a big surfer and he was down at the Rincon and the waves were 8-12 foot sets so all the surfers are so excited,” Ortiz said.
