Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center seeking donations for severely injured dog

The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center is seeking donations to help a dog that was severely injured by two larger dogs.

The female medium-sized terrier named Sammy was rushed into emergency care after she was attacked by two dogs she has lived with for over a year.

The injuries caused severe swelling and S.P.A.R.C. staff were initially unable to determine the dog’s breed.

S.P.A.R.C’s executive director Nicky Gore-Jones described the injury as horrific.

“Sammy had to be rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic, where her head virtually had to be sewn back together,” Gore-Jones said.

The swelling made it impossible for Sammy to eat and veterinarians were forced to surgically insert a feeding tube directly into the dog’s stomach.

Sammy must remain under veterinary care and Gore-Jones said the dog is still in critical condition.

The no-kill shelter based out of Ventura is asking for donations to help pay for Sammy’s treatment as well as for all the animals in the shelter.

“As a no-kill city shelter, we urgently need major donations to our medical fund to help pay for the sick and injured animals we receive every month,” Gore-Jones said.
