Avila Beach gets an economic boost this Labor Day weekend from hundreds of visitors

AVILA BEACH, Calif. -- Avila Beach saw hundreds of visitors this Labor Day weekend -- business owners said they were happy to have an economic boost.

The owner of an Avila Beach Bed and Breakfast "Casa San Miguelito" said she was fully booked and had an additional five inquiries days before Labor Day weekend.

“To escape the heat they book, Casa San Miguelito here in Avila. And it's just a way for them to bond with their families and have a wonderful time and escape the heat", said Chief Hospitality Officer Sara Elena Loaiza.

Locals said they have never seen Avila Beach as busy as they did this past weekend or even in the last decade of living on the beach strip.

“We had people just about from everywhere, from San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, North County, South County. It was incredible the amount of people that were here in town, for the most part, trying to escape the heat", said Pierfront restaurant Manager Parker Conant.

Tourists traveled from across California to escape the heatwave at Avila Beach and businesses thrived. Restaurants and bars were filled with people this weekend.

“But so many people were coming in and it was driving traffic. Not just our business here, Pierfront brewery, but to a lot of the other local industries around here", said Conant.

Some beach-goers said it took them up to an hour to find parking.

Other locals said Avila has always been a hidden gym a couple of miles away from Pismo Beach.

This Labor Day weekend people filled the beach and streets at Avila.
