City of San Luis Obispo Names New Police Chief

The City of San Luis Obispo has appointed Deanna Cantrell as its new police chief.

Cantrell will start her role as the new police chief on January 4th. “I am thrilled to start the New Year with Deanna as our Police Chief. It positions us well to continue progress on public safety initiatives and to bring the Police Department’s strategic plan to Council. Deanna has diverse experience that will be very applicable to our community” said City Manager Lichtig.

For her part, Cantrell could not be more excited in relocating and serving the community of San Luis Obispo. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the community of San Luis Obispo, the men and women of the San Luis Obispo Police Department, and the City Manager and her team. My family and I are very excited about transitioning to San Luis Obispo and look forward to becoming members of this wonderful community”, said Cantrell.

Cantrell has over two decades of experience in law enforcement. She has served in the City of Mesa, Arizona in multiple assignments within the organization, including patrol, motor and traffic enforcement; undercover and special crime assignments, and Assistant Chief.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Education and a Masters in Administration from Northern Arizona University.

The public is invited to attend a swearing in ceremony at the beginning of the City Council meeting on January 19 at 6 p.m.
