Gas leak fixed along busy Betteravia Rd. in Santa Maria, all lanes back open
UPDATE 8:15 A.M. -- A gas leak along the busy Betteravia Road in Santa Maria has been fixed by SoCal Gas Company. The overnight rupture was reported after midnight and may have been connected to construction in the area.
For about eight hours Betteravia Road at Highway 101 was closed in all directions while gas and public works crews tried to pinpoint the leak and fix it. By 7 a.m. Friday major progress had been made and lanes of traffic began to reopen. By the 8 a.m. hour, all lanes were back open.
The exact cause of the rupture is being looked into. And drivers may continue to see roadwork happening throughout the day.
UPDATE 7:35 A.M. -- Parts of Betteravia Road are back open Friday morning after a gas line ruptured overnight. Some lanes are finally back open after but crews continue to work in the area.
It is unknown when the busy roadway will fully reopen.
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A major traffic disruption in Santa Maria will impact the Friday morning commute for drivers who use Betteravia Road.
A main gas line was ruptured and several agencies are working to find the spot where it happened and close it off. A Gas Company supervisor tells News Channel reporter Keith Carls construction crews were digging for a fiber optic line when the gas line was hit. Caltrans is now digging up the street to find the spot where the leak is coming from and fix it.
Santa Maria Fire and Police have closed off Betteravia Road from Highway 101 to College drive and from Bradley Road to Auto Park Drive.
There is no estimate for when the road will reopen.
The gas line supplies many of the commercial businesses in the area including the Enos Ranch Shopping Center, Costco and other retailers who are directly impacted by the disruption in gas service.
